General Description and purpose:

The Director of Youth and Family Ministries at St. John Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND is a professional staff position that bears primary responsibility for the planning and management of the Youth and Family Ministries programs of St. John Lutheran Church.  The DYFM shall foster Christian community through building relationships with youth and their families, work to strengthen the commitment of our youth to the church and help them grow their faith. The DYFM will work in partnership with the pastors, staff, and lay leadership of the church.  This is a full time position with context of the responsibilities described below (applicants seeking a ¾ time position should also apply).

 Qualifications

* Member of an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America church

* Bachelors Degree preferred, but not required

* A resilient and persevering spirit

* Comfortable building relationships with youth and their families  

* A sense of humor along with an energetic, caring, and open-minded personality. 

* Ability to identify and foster leadership in youth and adults.

* Availability to work flexible hours with expectations for overnight and travel activities.

* Comfortable with public speaking

* Valid driver’s license

 Responsibilities

* Foster positive personal relationships with youth and their families

* Advocate for youth and their families in the community of the church

* Develop, oversee and implement ministries for the youth and their families

* Work in conjunction with the Children’s Ministry Team to assist with annual events in
   a mentoring fashion

* Encourage a sense of ownership among youth and their families for their Christian life

* Encourage participation in youth programs and congregational life

* Recruit, empower and train youth and adult volunteers

* Work with the Youth Ministry Team in visioning and implementation of programs

* Communicate regularly with youth and their families through such media as; monthly newsletter,
   youth bulletin board, worship bulletins, youth website, etc.

* Share in hospital and home visitation of youth (as needed)

* Assist in the coordination and teaching of the Confirmation program

* Coordinate fundraising

* Attend and participate in weekly worship services at St. John Lutheran Church (as needed)

* Prepare an annual report and budget along with monthly financial accountability

Accountability & Supervision      

* Attend and participate in Church council meetings as needed

* Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings

* Accountable to Senior Pastor for leadership and guidance
