Narrative Lectionary: Genesis to Revelation!

Last year, we introduced the Narrative Lectionary to St. John, and the response was quite positive.  So, staff and lay leaders elected to bring this curriculum back for another year.  Starting on Sept. 13, we will begin a journey through the Bible from Genesis to the New Testament Church.

The schedule will remain the same from last year, so this lectionary will be utilized for both our Sunday education and worship times.  All generations will engage the same biblical story each week, plus we will provide take-home devotions to accompany the journey.  We will start the Fall with stories from the books of Genesis and Exodus and keep traveling our way through the entire Bible.  I highly encourage you to join me for the Bible Study that accompanies our Sunday morning preaching each week.  These Bible Studies will be held in the parlor at 9:00 am.  Bibles will be provided, or you can bring your own Bible with you!

I am a big believer in adult education and see confirmation as the beginning to our Christian education, not the end.  Here’s why:  in a world that promotes all kinds of Christian worldviews, we need discerning followers of Jesus who can practice the faith that Jesus proclaimed.  This is a faith not built around Christian Nationalism or fear mongering or the end of the world or about sending people to hell!  Rather, it is a faith in a God who chooses us and welcomes us into God’s embrace!  It is a faith that sees God’s long arc of love and mercy shown to a faithless people, while God remains faithful!  It is a faith that tells us that we are called to work for justice and peace in all the earth!

I promise that this Bible Study time will prepare you for our work together in God’s world and will encourage you in your life of faith!  Don’t worry if you can’t make it every week, because there will be a new story in front of us every week.  Come check it out!
