St. John Foundation

The purpose of the Foundation is to enhance the ministry of the Church (our global community in Christ) by establishing new ministries and stewardship opportunities, in addition to and apart from the general operating expenses of the St. John congregation.

Funding Guidelines (Perpetual Fund):

  1. Any group or individual that provides program or activities that enhance the ministry of the Church is eligible to apply for funding.

  2. Foundation funds are not intended for projects/uses that are or should be funded by the general operating funds of the church.

  3. Funding requests are reviewed by the Foundation Board each quarter (March, June, September and December).

  4. Applications for each quarter will be accepted until the posted deadline prior to each meeting.

  5. The St. John Foundation Board will review all funding requests and make final decisions with regard to fund distribution.

You may be asked to share the outcome of your funding request with the membership of St. John Lutheran Church via an article in a newsletter or at an adult education session.

Asleson Scholarship Fund

This fund is used for scholarships for St. John members who will be attending an ELCA-affiliated college as a full-time student the upcoming academic year. Funds are distributed in June each year.

Bea Ihlenfeld Music & Scholarship Fund

Applicants must be a member of St. John Lutheran Church. For scholarships, priority is given to those requesting assistance for church-based or other faith-based activities. As the Asleson Scholarship Fund is available to students attending ELCA colleges, this scholarship will not be granted for college tuition at an ELCA college. However, you may request an Ihlenfeld scholarship for attending an ELCA seminary. Funds are distributed in December each year.

Aaron & Holly Nissen Preschool Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by Aaron and Holly Nissen in 2012 to provide scholarships to St. John Preschool families. The board disperses funds every September. The Preschool director then chooses specific recipients based upon need.

North Dakota Tax Credit Fund

This fund exists to allow individuals the opportunity to donate to the Foundation in order to take advantage of tax savings with the donation. Distribution from this fund occurs with the perpetual fund.
